Reached fundraising goal on Sunday afternoon
(RISING SUN, Ind.) -- Abby Fox has a third grader and kindergartner who attend Rising Sun Elementary School.
Like many parents, she was horrified by the Nashville school shooting in March.
She could have demanded the school to take action, however, she decided to help the school with a fundraiser.
Superintendent Brandon Roeder told her that school cameras were outdated. Fox asked if she could start a fundraiser to improve surveillance at the school.
Roeder said yes and Abby launched the 'One Sunny Day' fundraiser.
The goal was to raise $40,000 for new motion-sensor cameras and the final fundraising push was on Sunday during a community celebration at Fox Farm.
Rising Sun community members responded in a big way and Abby's initiative netted more than $45,000!
It means the school district will be able to buy the new cameras which have high-tech features.
Fox hopes this grassroots initiative will encourage parents in other school districts to make a difference at their school through community fundraising.
