Semis, dump trucks and other vehicles requested for burial escort
(NEW ALSACE, Ind.) -- A lifelong member of the New Alsace community is being remembered this weekend and there's a way you can honor him and his family.
Tom Klump passed away in an off-road vehicle accident on North Dearborn Road on July 4.
He was the owner of Klump Excavating & Construction. He started the company when he was just 16-years-old in 1976.
"In 1978, he purchased a brand new 951 Track Loader and a 350 John Deere Bulldozer and never looked back," family members said.
Over the years, the company grew from local jobs to traveling across state lines.
Klump Excavating has now completed projects in nearly every state east of the Mississippi River.
It was a dream come true for Tom, who used to drive a dump truck to East Central High School as a student, so he could leave school and go straight to hauling gravel.
Family and friends have a simple request on the day of his burial which is Saturday.
They're hoping semi trucks, dump trucks, box trucks, fire trucks and any other DOT-registered vehicle can help escort Tom to his final resting place.
The escort will be led by Klump Excavating & Construction trucks.
